When developing a website page I follow this checklist to be sure the content and structure is search engine optimized (SEO):
Before creating the content:
- Make sure the subject is well defined
- Think about several keywords users would search for
- Use Google Keyword Planner tool (available in Add Words accounts) to find the “valuable” keywords for the subject
- Write the content so it’s easy to read and to look at.
After creating the content:
- URL (alias) contains keywords and are separated by “-”
- Page description is unique, has keywords and summarizes the content in less than 160 characters
- Page title has keywords and the more relevant are near the start
- Headings have keywords
- Images don’t contain important text in it, have “alt” attribute and filename with relevant content
- Links have keywords on the anchor text
- Page body has keywords but not in an exaggerated amount
- If applicable share the content through social media
